The café

When you sit down in the café and look around, you may start examining the interior design of the café. Perhaps you will perceive walls that look damaged, worn-out tables and undisguised pipes instead of a radiator. But it ain't old or damaged. The staff explained to me how the café was refurbished and that they used moldings to create the damaged-looking walls. This isn't shabby chic. It doesn't look cute. It feels like sitting in an old storehouse in the harbour, with an an industrial charm sitting next to the coffee roasting machine. Nevertheless or maybe precisely for that reason it's comfortable and inviting.

Everytime I've been in Bakeliet Kaffee (during rush hour) I literally have got one of the last tables available. This fact indicates the level of quality of the served coffee and food, but the café's popularity can be a problem. In case you don't want to rely on your own luck, you might want to reserve a table first.
Brewing a good cup of coffee needs a little time and attention. The employees take their time to ensure the quality of the order and bring your order to your table. This is a really good thing, but you shouldn't be in too much of a hurry.

The coffee

Although coffee is often consumed for the caffeine it contains, the Bakeliet is part of a general movement you can observe amongst roasters everywhere. They try to increase the quality of coffee and bring it to the masses.
Just a thought: Most restaurants offer a broad variety of different teas. They offer black tea, green tea, rooibos tea and white tea. Often matcha and chai tea, too. But how many different kinds of coffee do you get? You like it nutty and full of chocolaty flavors or rather fruity? The answer is: One. Maybe two, if they have different beans for espresso. That's like limiting your choice of tea to Earl Grey and Darjeeling. You might say, you can get different coffees like an espresso, an espresso macchiato, a latte and an americano. Some people put milk and honey in their tea or let the tea steep longer, too. The coffee or tea doesn't completely change its body and taste though. It's still the same.

The food

You can get quite extraordinary dishes at the Bakeliet. Have you in example ever heard of a milk rice cake before? Besides cake they offer breakfast, brunch and lunch. They also offer vegetarian, vegan and glutenfree dishes.

The workshops

If you are a coffee addict like me, you may want to learn more about your preferred drink. For this purpose the Bakeliet offers different workshops.
Among other things they probably will teach you about the ratio of ground coffee to water, the hardness of water, the suitable temperature range, different brewing methods like the Aeropress, French press, Chemex etc. and how to taste coffee like a professional. Very helpful information if you want to achieve brewing a consistent good coffee.
